Sewa Canada International Aid Inc. was founded in 1991 as the Sewa Bharati Toronto Chapter by Mrs. Asha Sehgal, with support from Mr. Sat Wadhwa and Mr. Rampuri. The word "Sewa" in Sanskrit means selfless service to the sick, poor, destitute, vulnerable, and oppressed members of society.

Sewa Canada’s motto, “Service to Humanity is Service to God” (Nar Sewa Narayan Sewa), reflects the belief that the whole world is one family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam). Our mission is to promote the well-being of all: "May all be happy; May all be free from sickness." Sewa Canada seeks to serve the poor and underprivileged through initiatives focused on poverty alleviation, education, health, disaster relief, and social development in India, Canada, and other countries.

While Sewa Canada International Aid Inc. began operations in 1991, it was formally registered as a non-profit charitable organization in January 1999. Sewa Canada is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), with the charity registration number 885411249RR0001.

Our chapters are located across Canada, including in Vancouver, Toronto, Markham, London, Windsor, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Milton. Sewa Canada is a leading humanitarian aid and development-focused charity that provides selfless service to all, regardless of race, nationality, religion, or gender. We operate projects not only in Canada, India, and Nepal but also in parts of Europe and other countries. Through our innovative and compassionate service programs, we strive to assist those in need through donations and partnerships with trusted allies.

Our approach combines a commitment to Sewa Canada’s projects with strong financial and business controls to ensure that the funds we invest achieve both our goals and those of our donors. We follow strict financial management practices, which have allowed us to maintain an impressive 96% project efficiency ratio over the past three years.
