सेवाका लागि युवा – Youth For Seva’s Emergency Food Relief for underprivileged Nepali families (daily wage earners, the poor and the marginalized) with support & funding from Sewa Canada International Aid Inc. commenced yesterday.50 families (daily wage labourers) in Lamachaur , Pokhara were given essential grocery supplies (12 kgs Rice, 1-litre oil, 1 kg salt, 1 packet Soyabean, 2 kg Peas, Chana Dal 1 kg) to last for 7-10 days for a family of 4. This works out to CAD$ 13.00 per kit for a family. Today we served another 30 poor families in Hemja Yamdi area.

We have also donated Grocery supplies to Gorkhali FM Radio station, for them to distribute to more needy families and thus working together to extend the reach.Totally, we are looking at feeding 150 poor & hungry families in outskirts of Pokhara in the coming days.

सेवाका लागि युवा – Youth For Seva Nepal is working through & closely in partnership with Pokhara Mahanagar Palika (Pokhara City Administration) & Gorkhali Radio. We have permission from the local government bodies to do this work, in partnership with them.

We are receiving more calls from needy people and are looking at going beyond 150 families to at least 500 and possibly 1000 families. Hence more funding required in the coming days. You can help make a difference to feed a hungry family.

In addition, we are also donating food supplies for 30 families to the Gorkhali FM Radio station. We are also donating 110Kgs of Rice to Local Government’s Food Aid Program. The aid is currently being/will be distributed by our own volunteers. We will provide daily reports to all donors via our Facebook page. You may also contact us via CONTACT US at our website.

In the last two weeks, we have expanded our work to provide relief to approximately 400 needy families. We have also expanded our relief work to Kathmandu & district of Makwanpur, apart from covering new areas in and around Pokhara. This has engage youth volunteers in these respective districts. Local government officials supervise and preside over the distribution by our volunteers. Our small band of volunteers at Youth for Seva Nepal supported by Sewa Canada International Aid Inc. have been punching above their weight for the last 3 weeks. Permission from the government to provide aid, scouting/screening to identify needy families & locations, procurement, packing into kits, transportation, distribution, coordination with government etc etc….doing it all by themselves to keep overheads to almost nothing. Putting themselves at risk, these youth are an inspiration to many. They also donated PPE equipment, hand sanitizers, food and refreshments to security personnel working hard to enforce the lockdown.
