Help Jamaica - Hurricane Melissa Relief & Rehabilitation

Hurricane Melissa the strongest storm to strike Jamaica in modern history, barrelled across the country leaving behind a trail of ruin and unprecedented devastation. Homes, schools, hospitals, infrastructure and livelihoods have been destroyed. Heavy rains, flooding, and powerful winds have displaced thousands of families and disrupted access to electricity, clean water, and healthcare. Without power or phone coverage, much of the country is isolated and so information is trickling through and damage assessments are still ongoing and not known completely yet.

Our partner in the Caribbean islands, Sewa International Trinidad & Tobago (TT) have been over the past week planning and preparing to provide relief in Jamaica, post Hurricane Melissa. While Sewa International TT has volunteers on the ground in Jamaica, shipping of relief materials from Trinidad is in progress as well as flying in more volunteers from Trinidad & Tobago, once flights resume into Jamaica.

Our Immediate Focus is to :

For 1000 families - Provide emergency non-perishable food kits, water supplies, water purification kits, essential medicines & solar powered lamps.
Mobilize local volunteer networks and from other Caribbean countries for coordination of these relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Set up temporary shelters and hygiene stations for displaced individuals.
