Jasper Wildfire – Food Relief for Evacuees |
The largest wildfire recorded in Jasper National Park in the last 100 years has devastated a third of the popular tourist town of Jasper, Alberta. The wildfire, which may continue to burn for months, has already scorched an estimated 79,000 acres (about 123 square miles) as of Sunday night. Out of the 1,113 structures in the town, 358 have been destroyed, and 25,000 people have been forced to evacuate the area. An update from Parks Canada stated, “This is the largest wildfire recorded in Jasper National Park in the last 100 years, and ensuring that residents and visitors are safe to return will take time.” In response to this crisis, Sewa Canada International is launching a food relief initiative to support evacuees and firefighters in the Edmonton area. Similar to our efforts during last year’s wildfires, we are partnering with We Together Strong Community, a group with a proven track record of providing hot meals to those in need in Edmonton. Our goal is to provide food supplies and at least 1,000 hot meals to evacuees and firefighters over the coming weeks. If you would like to support this relief effort, please donate generously. 100% of your donations will go directly to relief efforts on the ground and are tax-deductible in Canada. We will provide regular updates on the progress of our work. | Goal: $10,000.00
