Punjab Floods - Relief & Rehabilitation |
Punjab province in India is reeling under its worst floods in decades, with at least 30 people dead and more than 250,000 affected across 12 districts in the province. Over 1,300 villages across Punjab are submerged, with 6,582 people shifted to 122 relief camps. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar are among the worst-hit districts. Volunteers from our partner organization Sewa Bharati Punjab have been on the ground since the onset of the floods, engaging in relief and rescue work in Punjab. In Gurdaspur, our volunteers transported several trolley-loads of essential materials including milk, sugar, ration, drinking water, and medicines to ten affected villages. They even reached areas where no other help had yet arrived, working alongside the administration. In Kapurthala district, volunteers supplied household items, odomos, candles, medicines and other essentials. In Mukerian, they extended assistance to flood-hit families in villages such as Haled, Kolia, Simbli, and Mehtabpur. |
Once the waters recede, the rehabilitation & rebuilding phase will commence. During this period we will focus on addressing loss of property of victims by repairing or rebuilding homes/property and suitable aid to resume farming and self-employment. Sewa Canada International is collaborating with Hindu Sikh Unity Forum and to raise funds to provide relief to victims of floods in Punjab. Please donate generously to help us provide relief & rehabilitation. All donations are tax-deductible in Canada. 100% of your generous donations will be transferred to the work on the ground in Punjab via our partner on the ground, Sewa Bharati Punjab.
