Reducing mortality among Women |
The ASK : Please donate generously to help us use technology to save the lives of expectant mothers and newborns in hard to reach remote communities of Bajura & Doti districts of Nepal. Sewa Canada International will match your donations to the first CAD$ 10,000 collected. Donate now to double your impact. Why? The maternal mortality rate in Nepal is 239 per 100,000 live births, gradually decreasing; however can be argued to be higher in rural areas, where chances of one in thirty women dying during pregnancy and childbirth. Similarly, the newborn mortality rate is 21 per 1000 live births. The various barriers that influence these indicators include inaccessibility of medical care and health services. These are caused by geographical, institutional, socio-cultural and financial obstacles. In addition, ineffective referral mechanism between all levels of service delivery due to inadequate communication and transportation and poor quality of health services is also a contributor. What? Sewa Canada International, has undertaken extensive work across Nepal to improve its medical infrastructure over the last three years. This included making Solukhumbu district fully equipped with Ultra-Sound machines, in its villages with the supply of 27 such units by Sewa Canada International, to reduce maternal deaths and improve maternal care.
