Support for Intellectually Challenged Girls in Nepal |
SUNGAVA HOMES in Kathmandu is a registered charity in Nepal and home to intellectually challenged girls and women. It provides daycare to them, vocational training, skill development programs, domestic skills training, literacy programs and creative activities. The massive 2015 Nepal earthquake damaged the current building of Sungava Homes. After repairs, the structure has been operational for the last few years. However, more cracks have recently appeared in the building, and Engineers have declared it unsafe, a hazard to its residents with immediate effect. Hence, Sungava Homes is scrambling to make emergency arrangements. The good news is they have acquired an old building donated by the parents of one of the girls in its care. However, to make this building operational and to facilitate hosting these girls/women under its care, it must complete civil, plumbing and electrical works. The estimate for these works is pegged at CAD$ 18,000. Four partners across two countries are collaborating to make this happen: Sewa Canada International, NRNA-Canada, Nepalese Heritage Charity Foundation of British Columbia, and Nepal Australia Friendship Association in Brisbane, Australia. Sewa Canada International, along with its collaborative partner NRNA-Canada appeal to donors in Canada to generously donate, to help us raise CAD$ 9,000 for this noble cause . All donations are tax-deductible in Canada, and tax receipts will be issued automatically by Sewa Canada International. An additional grant was provided by Sewa Canada to provide drinking water tank and connections to provide water to the home. | Goal: $10,000.00
