Sewa Canada International Aid Inc., is collaborating with Food For Life Charitable Foundation Hungary (Ételt az Életért Közhasznú Alapítvány, in Hungarian) to provide relief to Ukrainian refuges fleeing the war. Food For Life (FFL) in Hungary is a charitable organization serving Hungary for over 22 years and inspired by volunteers of ISKCON.

What are we doing? – Serving 1500 hot meals every day

Most refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine have not had a hot meal in days. As of 7th March, 183,688 refugees fled to Hungary. Some are also using it as a transit point, on their way to other destinations in Europe. Our volunteers from Food For Life Charitable Foundation in Hungary, are serving up to 1500 hot meals every day, to refugees across four locations for the last 10 days.

Where are we serving?

  • Ukraine / Hungary border – Feeding 500 people per day at the request of local Mayors’ offices at three border locations
  • Budapest Refugee Centres – Feeding 120 people per day at the request of the municipality/district mayor
  • Debrecen Refugee Centres – Feeding 50 people at request of the local charity board (50 plates/day)
  • Budapest train station – Feeding 300 in-transit refugees every day.
  • Completed – on request of the Indian Embassy in Budapest –Served 300 to 1500 meals every day for Indian students fleeing Ukraine into Hungary in transit to India, until 5th March.

What are we serving?

Each person receives one portion hot meal (plant-based), one portion of bread, one portion of fruit (banana/ orange/ apple) & 1 pack of biscuits. The total cost of meal is approximately CAD$ 4.50, apart from the cost of logistics and transport.

100% of your generous donations are transferred to the work on the ground in Hungary via Food For Life Charitable Foundation Hungary. Sewa Canada International will also match your donations, to the first CAD$ 5000 collected.

Update #3 – May 23rd 2022

So far, Sewa Canada International has raised and transferred C$ 35,000 to Food For Life Hungary, and C$ 15,000 to Viva Kultura in Poland, to help support relief activities for Ukrainian refugees, in the respective countries. Gratitude to all the donors, including Chinmaya Mission Niagara’s efforts and donation to this cause. May 19 – Work on the ground by our partner organization in Hungary continues, delivering another four tonnes of food materials inside Ukraine, from Hungary.

April 27 – Sewa Canada International’s partners Food For Life Hungary delivered 4.5 tonnes of non-perishable food, inside Ukraine over the weekend, the fourth large scale delivery in different regions inside Ukraine. Food For Life Ukraine volunteers will use these supplies to cook and serve hot meals to families and seniors hiding in shelters, underpasses and bunkers in Uzhgorod and Dnieper. The daily food distribution and the support of the refugees inside Hungary continues too.

April 10th –  The second tranche of funds C$ 20,000 wire transferred to Hungary. The first tranche of funds transferred was C$ 15,000, transferred in March as reported in our previous update. Below is a copy of the acknowledgement of receipt of the funds, from our partners in Hungary.
